For some people, it's fast cars; for others, strong men or even stronger espresso. For Erin Magner, there's no high like the one she gets from a sharply tailored shoulder, a sculptural heel, or a perfectly pure shade of indigo. It's a good thing she's got writing as an outlet for her monumental fashion geek-dom - otherwise, she'd be intolerable at parties.
Erin's been obsessed since childhood, and even though she's retired her Bedazzler and now idolizes Carine Roitfeld rather than Clarissa Darling, fashion is still the one thing that never fails to inspire her. Even so, she never seriously considered a career in the industry until after graduation. She earned a dual B.A. in Communications and French from Susquehanna University and La Sorbonne in Paris, then spent two years working in London as an entertainment publicist.
It was Erin's stint in PR that led her to enroll in London College of Fashion's post-graduate journalism program. A series of editorial internships followed -
Grazia magazine,
The Guardian newspaper, and Nick Knight's
SHOWstudio.com - before returning to the U.S.
Erin subsequently settled in Los Angeles, where she is now assistant editor at
Angeleno magazine, covering everything from fashion and beauty to society and the arts. Her work has also appeared in
NYLON,
Style.com,
The Los Angeles Times, Flare,
StylusInteriors.com and
Racked LA (where she was formerly editor). Although her main focus is fashion, she is also well versed in the arts, culture, food, design and travel, and is comfortable writing anything from long-form features to marketing copy in any of these areas.
When not plotting her ascent to the editor's desk at Elle, Erin is usually doing crossword puzzles, going on road trips, practicing yoga or searching tirelessly for vintage Diane Freis dresses - all in the name of research, of course.
